Where do i even begin…
How about I introduce myself? My name is Paulina. I was born and mostly raised in Mexico City. But it’s weird to think that in 7 more years I will have spent more time in the USA than in Mexico. I have lived in 5 different cities in 2 countries and traveled to 34 countries. I have a big love for traveling. Covid kinda got in the way of my dream of 50 countries by 30, but 16 countries in 4 years? I don’t know. I guess we will see!
I went to Abilene Christian University and majored in Graphic Design and Advertising. I love all things that involve me being creative. However, as much as I do enjoy graphic design I do also like working on creative projects that do not require me staring at a screen. During my sophomore summer break I attended an intense Event Planning course with one of the biggest event planners from Mexico. And let’s just say for maybe a split second, or two… I thought about dedicating myself to that and leaving graphic design behind. But obviously I didn’t. I am not someone who leaves things unfinished. And I knew I wanted to feel accomplished and graduate. But my passion for Event Planning did not end there. I even helped some of my guy friends with their socials and formals for their social clubs. Leave it to me to plan, coordinate and decorate their Christmas event all in one day. I think they would say I did a pretty good job.
After graduating I got hired at an apparel and gift company in Austin. One of the biggest blessings God has given me. Finding a job who is willing to pay for your work visa and cares about you and values you as a creative is not as easy to come by as one would think. It will be 3 years with them this summer! Weird how time can go so fast.
Once in Austin I started attending a small group for my church led by the brothers of one of my best friends. And that is where I met the love of my life. It just took me almost a year and half to realize that (lol). Alex and I started dating in September 2019 and got engaged 1 year exactly after our first date! And I have been planning our wedding since that day. I always knew I would not hire a wedding planner and I would probably be one of those DIY brides (even though I hate that label). But being a graphic designer, loving all event planning, being organized (ish) and having a family who has also done many many events I just knew this would be my shining moment. And don’t get me wrong. The best part about that day will be marrying Alex and starting our life together. But I also want this to be my first event and hopefully not the last one I get to plan and bring to life! From centerpieces and florals, to designing and using printmaking for invitations, I am thrilled for it!
I want to create this blog for all those soon to be brides who are looking for a place to get ideas, find vendors, links to any items I have found, and just learn about the whole process from a normal girl who is also planning her special day. I want to help and share all that I have learned, even my mistakes. Knowing how hard it can be to start planning when you just feel overwhelmed with all that needs to be done. I hope I can help take the stress off someone by writing about my own experience. I hope I can use this gift God gave me to serve others and also as a reminder that in the end our wedding is a special event because of the covenant we are making in front of God and our loved ones, it is not to have the most Instagram worthy wedding or the perfect photos to post.
